Cervical Screening (Smear Tests)

Cervical screening is one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself from the risk of cervical cancer. It is a free NHS health check that takes less than 10 minutes.

When should I have a test?
You will receive an invitation through the post when you are due.

Aged 25–49: Every 3 years.

Aged 50–64: Every 5 years.

Your Appointment
We understand that some people feel nervous about screening. Our Practice Nurses are highly experienced and will do everything they can to make you feel comfortable.

Female Staff: All screening is performed by our female nursing team.

Comfort: You can ask for a smaller speculum, bring a friend, or ask the nurse to stop at any time.

Results: You will receive your results by letter, usually within 2 to 4 weeks.
